A festive Christmas in Marbella

Marbella proves that you don’t have to head off to Lapland or the Alps to enjoy a Merry Christmas and a great Festive Season. Here’s why:

You don’t need snow, icy temperatures and grey skies to make the Festive Season merry. In fact, mild temperatures and sunny days alternating with the occasional shower can prove a great backdrop for this time of year. The typical weather here allows you to enjoy the sun’s rays as you have coffee in a lively square, go for a walk on Marbella’s palm-lined Paseo Marítimo beach promenade or do your Christmas shopping along the main Ricardo Soriano Avenue.

Christmas shopping in Marbella

Other places where seasonal shopping reaches a high note at this time of year are the popular modern La Cañada mall, the magnificent El Corte Inglés department store in Puerto Banús and in the elegant, bustling shopping streets in the historic centre of Málaga. Here, as in Marbella, you will be accompanied by some of the most magical Christmas lights and decorations in Europe. When combined with the charm and quaint little streets and squares of Marbella’s Casco Antiguo historic quarter, it takes on a truly unforgettable aspect.

Glamorous Golden Mile festivities

The same is true of the many Christmas fairs held in and around Marbella. Among the most elegant are the Christmas markets of the Kempinski Hotel and the delightful La Virginia urbanisation just off the Golden Mile. The latter is also the epicentre of glamour and style during Christmas and New Year, offering a first class choice of dining – above all, at the Michelin star Dani Garcia and other fine dining restaurants on the Puente Romano Hotel’s Plaza Village.

Many of these become the focus of attention at New Year’s Eve, when elegant cotillion celebrations continue into exclusive nightclubs such as the Puente Romano’s Suite. Wherever they are, crowds will flock to Marbella’s Orange Square to ring in the New Year in traditional Spanish style by swallowing a grape with each strike of the clock, or head for the Golden Mile beaches to see the fireworks set off from nearby Puerto Banús.

Marbella offers a wide range of ways to enjoy the Festive Season just as it does throughout the year. AMREIN FISCHER is a Marbella property expert on the Golden Mile, so please contact us for more information on the lifestyle and beautiful Marbella properties this region offers.
