The jewel of Marbella East: Los Monteros

Los Monteros is considered the finest address on the east side of Marbella – and one of a select number of elite residential areas in greater Marbella – because of the fine collection of magnificent beachside villas and other exclusive properties it offers within a highly private and refined living environment.

Like many of the finer things in life, top addresses have something of a lineage, for the circumstances and spirit with which they first developed set the tone for what follows afterwards. This is also very true of Los Monteros, which like Marbella’s Golden Mile – another iconic address in the area – can look back on a provenance that remains intact today.

This relatively small but highly select residential area just a few kilometres east of Marbella town first evolved as a preferred site for the creation of luxurious beachside villas and mansions. Indeed, many of the finest homes in Marbella were and continue to be found in Los Monteros, the main part of which runs along some of the best coastline on the Costa del Sol.

Five-star luxury in Los Monteros

The urbanisation evolved around and perhaps took its cue from the luxurious Hotel Los Monteros, a five-star deluxe resort that ranks along with the Marbella Club, the Puente Romano and the Don Pepe as pure Marbella aristocracy. It was adjacent to the hotel’s lofty grounds and elegant La Cabane beach club that Los Monteros developed into one of the prime villa addresses in Marbella.

Here you will find something that is almost unique today: luxurious beachside villas on large private grounds. Not surprisingly, Los Monteros frontline beach villas are among the most sought after properties for an elite international clientele that famously includes the likes of Antonio Banderas. The villa he bought together with Melanie Griffith is however merely one of an impressive selection of gorgeous villas surrounded by peace, security and privacy.

The only other areas in Marbella where you find luxury beach villas are Guadalmina Baja and the Golden Mile, yet few occupy the spacious private grounds that Los Monteros offers. Though it is home to a small selection of very upmarket apartment complexes, Los Monteros proper is dominated by luxury villas that do its prime beach location proud.

Bahía de Los Monteros

The leafy district we know as Los Monteros is centred upon the Los Monteros Resort Hotel, which also offers a spa and sophisticated beach club. At Bahía de Los Monteros, it extends further along the finest stretch of beach in Marbella back towards the town. Here the soft sand and wispy dunes are a true feature as they blend with fantastic views over Marbella, courtesy of a panoramic sweep in the shoreline.

Though just minutes from the coastal road that connects this areas with Marbella, Puerto Banús, Elviria and the highway to Málaga and its international airport (45 minutes distant), Bahía de Los Monteros is peacefully tucked away between the greenery of the Río Real Golf Club and Marbella Rugby Club, on the one side, and the Mediterranean Sea on the other. In this select enclave you will find medium to large villas, luxurious semi-detached villa-style townhouses and upmarket apartments and penthouses with lovely sea views.

Los Altos de Los Monteros

Born to the same concept and situated in the hills above Los Monteros is the hill club estate that proudly carries its name. Though newer and not quite as exclusive as the original, Los Altos de Los Monteros appeals to a new generation of people who have fallen in love with this part of Marbella, which is easy to reach yet thanks to its location is surrounded by beautiful nature and owing to its elevation offers fantastic sea and mountain views, as well as vistas across the coastal area.

At the heart of Altos de Los Monteros are architecturally styled contemporary apartments with fantastic views and top level amenities. Radiating out, you will find luxurious modern villas, as well as private plots for sale, as this area offers scope to build your own villa in a peaceful and private yet well-connected location close to all of Marbella’s many amenities.
