Living on the New Golden Mile

Stretching between Estepona and San Pedro Alcántara, the New Golden Mile is one of the most popular areas on the western Costa del Sol. So named to entice those already au-fait with Marbella’s Golden Mile, the New Golden Mile was envisaged as a predominantly touristic location with the amenities, beaches and accessibility required to attract a certain level of clientele.

The New Golden Mile is around 45 minutes’ drive from both Málaga and Gibraltar airports, and only 10 minutes’ drive from the world famous marina of Puerto Banús. The main towns of San Pedro and Estepona are also within easy reach, although many who visit find that there is enough to keep them entertained more locally.

Benamara, Costalita and Guadalmansa are the best-known beachside urbanisations on the New Golden Mile. Benamara is predominantly made up of apartments and townhouses although there are a number of villas on medium sized plots. This is one of the oldest areas and very popular with visitors from the rest of Spain as well as foreign tourists and second home owners. It is well serviced by shops, restaurants, cafés, supermarkets, pharmacies and banks. The most well known complexes in Benamara are El Presidente, Hacienda del Sol and Dos Hermanas.

Costalita offers mainly apartment living with some townhouses and a number of smaller villas in the neighbouring areas of El Saladillo and Sun Beach. It has a beautiful beach promenade and great restaurants including Pepe’s Beach, where you can enjoy excellent fish dishes in a relaxing environment.

Guadalmansa has been developed more recently and includes a number of super luxury apartment complexes such as Torre Bermeja and Cabo Bermeja offering 24 hour security, frontline beach positions, gyms, indoor pools and spas.

On the other side of the A7 main road, often referred to as the hillside, El Paraiso and Selwo feature most prominently. El Paraiso is a more mature urbanisation with some properties dating back to the 1970s. With everything from small studio apartments to supersized mansions and many amenities within walking distance, El Paraiso is one of the most established residential areas of the New Golden Mile. Superb for families, with schools nearby, it’s also one of the retiree hotspots thanks to its sporting facilities (golf, tennis and bowls) and excellent social scene.

Selwo may be best known for its wildlife park but its affordable apartments and villas are gaining it a reputation as an up and coming area on the New Golden Mile. There are several different apartment and townhouse complexes in Selwo, as well as a golf course (La Resina) and selection of luxury villas higher up the hill. Selwo’s proximity to the exclusive Laguna Village beachside shopping and restaurant complex seals its position as one of the primary locations in which to invest on the New Golden Mile.

The final part of the New Golden Mile is also one of the most appealing, stretching as it does beyond Laguna Village and the luxurious Kempinski Hotel Bahía Beach Spa to occupy a prime frontline beach area that borders Estepona on the east. Magnificent sea views across to Morocco and Gibraltar are a way of life at Los Granados del Mar, Bahía de la Plata and Alcazaba Beach, as is having the beach and coastal walks on your doorstep. The latter extend into Estepona town, just a walk away. The beachside apartment complexes here are of the highest standard, featuring luxurious interiors and large panoramic terraces, 24-hour security, an indoor pool and spa, gym and private paddle tennis court.

The New Golden Mile perfectly combines an excellent position with quality accommodation and a wide range of amenities to create the ideal location for both residents and holidaymakers. For more information on properties available on the New Golden Mile, visit our website.
